The First Test, playing Who Ville
The second week of the season brought a series against the formidable Who Ville. The first test of this young team showed that they have what it takes against the veteran first place team.
Again the Kai started slow, but came to fight back and won the night cap.
Cobra Kai gave up a 4 spot to start the game, but fought right back to even it up in the bottom of the first. Then they went back to the field only to give up another 4 spot. This game went back and forth the entire 7 innings. It was just one of those game where who ever scored last was going to win, and Who Ville did just that. With a few walks in the top of the 7th, Cobra Kai lost the first game of the double header. The highlight of this game though for both teams was OF Jim Bouschor’s over the head “Willie Mays” style catch to rob Who Ville of a sure triple, if not homerun.
The second game started out much like the first, with Cobra Kai scoring right out of the gate. This time they wouldn’t give up the lead, going onto a 13-6 win. This game it was Morgan Rothblat with the spark leading the game off with a HR. A few of the Kai got hurt over the course of this game. OF Mike O’Neill pulled his groin, C Chris Shepherd hurt his leg, and OF Jim Bouschor and IF Jason Resnick were nursing their injuries from last week. None of this though would deter the Kai from pulling out this win.
Asked after the game about how he felt, O’Neill said “It hurts, I’ll just have to rest it for next week and see where I’m at.” Bouschor, who drank AMP energy drink before the game looked to be beaten up. Bouschor said “I can’t drink another full one of those, I crashed during the second game, just can’t do that next time.”
Resnick said “We split again, but we should really have won both. The walks hurt us in the first game, but this is a hitting game and we just have to hit to pick those up. We didn’t finish that game. We finished this last one though and I’m looking forward to next week with the 2 nights of games coming.” Asked if the injuries will affect the team with next week lining up with 2 nights of games. Resnick replied “Well it’s never good when your guys get hurt, but these are tough guys and I think they’ll be ready to play next week.”
